An overview of the foundational issues of ministry, including establishing a theology of ministry. Special attention will be given to the role of the minister, ministerial ethics, servanthood in ministry, and Jesus’ model of ministry. Emphasis will also be placed upon the sacraments and specialized ministries, such as weddings, baby dedications, water baptism and funerals

Personal & Social Values GE 101

An introduction to the basic theories and principles of human behavior and psychological development, and the integration of psychology and the Christian faith. Some focus will be given to the psychological dimension of various addictions and behaviors and a practical approach to intervention techniques.

Interpersonal Relations GE102

A consideration of the principles of good interpersonal relations, e.g., verbal & non-verbal communication, listening, understanding, and controlling emotions, conflict management, etc. The aim is to help the student better understand themselves, their strengths, and weaknesses, as well as to help them seek better ways of understanding and relating to others.

Speech Rhetoric GE 103

A study of the principles and practices of effective human communication, with emphasis placed on public speaking. This course stresses critical thinking and skill development necessary for effective speech. Listening skills are also included in the study.

Sign Language GE 106

An introductory course in sign language for beginners, this course will focus on the basics of sign language and deaf culture.  Historical and contemporary perspective of American Deaf culture using a sociocultural model. Includes cultural identity and awareness, values, group norms, communication, language, and significant contributions made by deaf people to the world (practicum component)

Sign Language GE 206

An intermediatory level course Interpreting Techniques Provides an historical framework for the current principles, ethics, roles, responsibilities, and standard practices of the interpreting profession. Emphasizes the use and understanding of facial expression. Gestures, pantomime, and body language. Class will increase knowledge of conversational American Sign Language and the connection between Deaf Culture and effective communication. Increases fluency and accuracy in fingerspelling and numbers (practicum component)

Spiritual Formation GE 104

A Guide to enhance the personal and spiritual growth by exploring the history, theology, methods, and resources of Christian spiritual formation. Special emphasis will be placed upon spiritual formation and community, and spiritual formation in community

Introduction to Psychology GE 105

Introduction to Sociology GE 202

An introduction of the forms, functions, and institutions of society a with practical attention to United States societies, current sociological issues, and consequential impact on quality of life.  This course will also examine various sociological perspectives against the response and role of today’s Christian.

African American Literature GE 200

An intensive study of African American literary works from 18th century to present, with focus on the impact on social equity and justice, education, church polity, political change, sports, and the African American heritage.

IT Online Orientation (SEMINAR)
